Kassian delivers dangerous push-kick to Cernak with his skate blade

Mike Armenti   ·   13 février 2020
The Edmonton Oilers announced earlier this week that the team would be without the services of Connor McDavid for the next 2 to 3 weeks and now they may be without forward Zack Kassian as well, as Kassian delivered a push-kick to the chest of Tampa Bay Lightning forward Erik Cernak on Thursday night.

HOCKEY - QUIZ
Which player was selected by the Avalanche in the first round in the 2007 entry draft?
ALEXEI CHEREPANOV
BRAD RICHARDSON
BRANDON SUTTER
KEVIN SHATTENKIRK
PAUL STASTNY
WOJTEK WOLSKI

There is no place in the game for plays like this one. As the video below shows, Kassian plants his skate blade into the chest of Cernak and delivers a hard push to create some distance so he can get up and get back into the play. Obviously, it goes without saying that this was an extremely dangerous play that could have resulted in a very serious injury.

Kassian is no stranger to the league's Department of Player Safety. It will be interesting to see how the league approaches this one. It would be hard to imagine that a suspension is not coming. It's just a matter of how many games Kassian may get for this incident.

Kassian is enjoying a career year with the Oilers this season, having registered 30 points in 51 games. We will have an update on this situation as soon as one becomes available.
