Islanders acquire New Jersey captain Andy Greene

For the first time in his 14-year professional career, defenseman Andy Greene will be playing for someone other than the New Jersey Devils. The New York Islanders have announced they've acquired the 37-year-old in exchange for a 2nd round pick in 2021 and defenseman David Quenneville.

Greene joined the Devils out of the college hockey system in 2006-07. In 923 games, he has 49 goals and 197 assists for 246 points. During the Devils run to the 2012 Stanley Cup Final, Greene played in all 24 games. In 53 games this season, he has two goals and 11 points.

Greene is currently on the final year of a five-year deal that earned him $5 million per season. He will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.



David Quenneville, 21, has a goal and five assists with Bridgeport of the AHL in 18 games this season. He's also played 14 games with the Worcester Railers of the ECHL in 2019-20. He is the 2nd cousin of Florida Panthers coach Joel Quenneville.
