Devils and Lightning announce a big trade

Mike Armenti   ·   16 février 2020
For the 2nd time today, the New Jersey Devils have completed a trade, this time, sending forward Blake Coleman to the Tampa Bay Lightning. In exchange, the Devils have received prospect Nolan Foote and Vancouver's first round draft pick in 2020, which Tampa acquired at the 2019 NHL Entry Draft in the J.T. Miller deal.

The deal is fantastic for both parties, as Tampa is in "win now" mode and Blake Coleman will provide the Bolts with some scoring depth who can play up and down the lineup.

Meanwhile, the Devils are very much in the midst of a rebuild and adding assets like 19-year old 6'3" winger Nolan Foote, who is fresh off of WJC gold with Team Canada in January as well as Vancouver's first round draft pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft is definitely a step in the right direction for a franchise that has struggled of late.

Coleman, 28, is in his 4th NHL season and has played 237 games, registering 94 points over that span, all with the club that drafted him in the 3rd round (75th overall) in the 2011 draft. He has 31 points in 57 games so far this season.
