When the Toronto Maple Leafs' Andreas Johnsson left a game against the Dallas Stars last Thursday, the team later reported he would require knee surgery and would miss eight weeks. An update from the Leafs has the projected timeline for return much further out.

Johnsson underwent knee surgery Wednesday and Toronto is now saying he will be out for at least six months. The injury occurred when Johnsson collided with teammate Kasperi Kapanen.

This a tough break for Toronto. Johnsson has been having a good season, even though he missed some time earlier in 2019-20 due to a leg injury. He had eight goals and 13 assists in 42 games. Toronto is now missing what could have been an important bargaining chip for a potential trade.

With the 25-year-old needing six months to recover, he won't be ready to return until August. That could set him up to take part in Toronto's training camp for 2020-21.
