Columbus finally receives good news on injury front

While the Columbus Blue Jackets have undoubtedly received absolutely stellar goaltending from Elvis Merzlikins in his absence, goaltender Joonas Korpisalo has certainly been missed.

During a season plagued with injury, the Blue Jackets have finally received some good news.

It was announced last week that the Finnish netminder was nearing return, as he was sent down to Columbus’ AHL affiliate Cleveland Monsters on a conditioning stint. During his time in the AHL, Korpisalo stopped 32-of-34 shots in a 3-2 overtime victory for against the Rochester Americans.

Korpisalo, who has missed the last 24 games after suffering a knee injury on December 29th in a dramatic game against Chicago, is finally expected to make his return to the Blue Jackets line up.

It was confirmed Sunday morning by Blue Jackets General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen that Korpisalo has been recalled from the American Hockey League and activated from injured reserve to return to the line up. He is anticipated to start in net Monday evening as the Blue Jackets host the Ottawa Senators — good news for a Columbus team in a tight race for a playoff spot.

The hope for the Blue Jackets is that Korpisalo will pick up his career-high season right where he left off, posting a 17-10-4 record with a 2.49 GAA and .913 save percentage through 32 games and earning an NHL All-Star Game invitation.
