Sam Lofquist, who plays for the Swedish Hockey League's Linköping HC, has received a hefty suspension after pushing an official during a recent game against the Malmö Redhawks. Lofquist, who was never drafted by an NHL team but spent time in the OHL, AHL and ECHL, will sit for five games as a result of his actions.

According to the Swedish media outlet Expressen, Lofquist and Malmö's Emil Sylvegard got into a heated shouting match near the end of the second period of the game. A scrum ensued. While an official was attempting to restrain Lofquist, Lofquist pushed him. Check it out:

Lofquist told Expressen "I did what I did and I am so, so sorry . I should never do that. They're just trying to take care of our safety. I am really ashamed and sorry for my actions . That must never happen."

The 29-year-old immediately received a match penalty for the shove, with the suspension coming later.

Despite the Swedish sounding last name, Lofquist was born in Wisconsin and played college hockey for the University of Minnesota for two years. He also spent parts of two seasons in the KHL. The defenceman has six goals and eight assists in 31 games for Linköping HC this year.
