The police accident report from the NY DMV shows that on the evening of Sunday, February 23, Igor Shesterkin was driving teammate Pavel Buchnevich's 2019 Porsche Panamera southbound on Ocean Avenue in Brooklyn, NY. A 2017 red Honda sedan driven by a 35-year-old Connecticut man was traveling northbound, and made an illegal U-turn between Avenues Z and Y. Despite neither car exceeding the 25 mph speed limit, Shesterkin was unable to avoid the sedan and t-boned the car. The Porsche was then thrown into a parked SUV, making it a three vehicle collision.

Buchnevich was sitting in the front passenger seat of the Porsche, and both airbags deployed from the impact, likely saving the players' lives. Both Rangers were released without medical assistance at the scene and were then observed by Rangers team doctors at New York-Presbyterian. The driver and the two passengers of the sedan were taken to local Coney Island Hosiptal with complaints of pain in legs.

Though not part of the police report, the driver from Connecticut was allegedly cited for the illegal U-turn.
