The Pittsburgh Penguins have managed to land defensive prospect Cam Lee. The 23-year-old free agent signed a two-year entry level contract that kicks in at the beginning of next season.
The 6-foot, 190-pound Lee recently completed his senior season at Western Michigan University of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) where he led all defensemen, and was tied for fifth on the team, with 21 points (3G-18A) in 26 games. In the final game of his collegiate career, Lee recorded a career-high five assists. In four years with Western Michigan, Lee has played in 137 games, recording 18 goals and 67 assists for 85 points.
"Cam is a good-skating, offensive-minded defenseman that fits the current style of play in today's NHL," said Jim Rutherford, GM of the Penguins. "This signing adds more young depth at defense for us. We're excited to have Cam as a member of the Penguins organization."
Lee is a native of Ferguson's Cove, Nova Scotia and is the nephew of Jean-Sebastien Giguere who appeared in 597 career NHL games in goal over 16 seasons, winning the Stanley Cup with Anaheim in 2007.
