The Chicago Blackhawks were in the midst of another disappointing season, as it was appearing more and more likely they were going to miss the playoffs for a third straight season prior to the NHL being suspended. Chairman Rocky Wirtz announced today however that no changes will be made with the team’s front office heading into next season.

Wirtz made sure to clarify that this means team president and CEO John McDonough, senior vice president / general manager Stan Bowman and head coach Jeremy Colliton will all be back with the team for the 2020-21 season. Both Bowman and Colliton are under contract through next season, but there were questions surrounding both of their futures as the Blackhawks have fallen off tremendously the last few seasons.

Since hiring Colliton, the team has went 62-58-17, which is extremely disappointing for a team who won three Stanley Cups from 2010-2015. However, not all the blame falls on Colliton. Bowman has made several errors, perhaps none bigger than trading superstar Artemi Panarin for Brandon Saad during the 2017 offseason. They have failed to reach the postseason since that deal was made.

There will certainly be a lot of upset Blackhawks fans with this news, as many feel it is time for a new direction with this team. One thing that is important for everyone to remember in all of this is that this team did win three Stanley Cups with Bowman in charge. He has certainly made some questionable decisions lately, as has Colliton, but there is certainly a chance they are able to return to greatness as soon as next season.
