COYOTES SIGN FORWARD RYAN MCGREGOR
COLTON PANKIW HOCKEY MARCH 19, 2020 · 16H15 |
The Coyotes have signed forward Ryan McGregor to a three-year, entry-level deal, per general manager John Chayka. The 21-year-old had 27 goals and 68 points in 51 games this season with the Sarnia Sting in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
McGregor has spent the last five seasons in the OHL, all with Sarnia. During the 2016-17 season, he put up 27 points in 65 games and was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the sixth-round that spring. After last season ended, he played four games in the AHL for the Toronto Marlies. Though it was a brief stint, he failed to make an impression and the Leafs decided not to sign him, meaning he was no longer their property.
Along with his clear offensive skill he showed during his time in Sarnia, he also proved to be a good leader, as he captained the Sting during his final two seasons. Prior to that, he was one of the team's assistant captains for another two seasons.
