The Montreal Canadiens announced Friday morning that they have re-signed forward Alex Belzile to a one-year, two-way contract. Belzile has been in the Habs organization for the last two seasons.

Belzile hasn’t played since December 4th, when he suffered an injury that required pectoral surgery. Prior to the injury, the 28-year-old had 14 points in 20 games for Laval Rocket, Montreal's AHL squad. The undrafted forward played his junior career in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He has spent his professional career on numerous different teams, as well as between the ECHL and the AHL. Last season, his first with Laval, he put up an AHL career high 54 points in 74 games.

The deal will pay Belzile $750,000 at the NHL level and $225,000 at the AHL level with a minimum guaranteed value of $250,000. He has not yet played in any career NHL games, however with Montreal’s lack of depth at the center ice position, there appears to be a chance that he will finally get the opportunity at some point next season.
