The Calgary Flames have landed two college players, as they announced today that they have signed defencemen Connor Mackey and Colton Poolman.

Mackey is a huge get for the Flames. The 23-year-old was ranked number one on TSN’s top undrafted free agent list. The American defenceman spent the last three seasons playing for Minnesota State, and had a very solid season this year putting up seven goals and 24 points in 36 games. His deal is a one-year, entry level contract.

Poolman, 24, also went undrafted. He spent his last four seasons playing for North Dakota, and put up a career high in his second season there with 29 points in 40 games. This season saw him play in just 31 games where he scored four goals and 17 points. He had pro offers at the end of last season but decided to turn them down in hopes of winning a championship with North Dakota. He ended up doing just that, as him and his teammates won the Penrose Cup, a team which he was the captain for.
