The Vegas Golden Knights have decided to sign one of their prospects to a contract extension. 23-year-old right shooting defenceman Zach Whitecloud has inked a contract for another two years. The deal is worth $725,000 annually.

Whitecloud was never drafted, instead spending two years at Bemidji State University in Minnesota before signing with Vegas as a free agent. So far, he's played a total of 17 games in the NHL, collecting one assist. He became a regular in the Knights lineup after the All-Star break and by all accounts impressed coach Pete DeBoer and his teammates with his poise and maturity.

Whitecloud also appeared in 35 games for the Wolves this season, recorded seven points with two goals and five assists. He was set to become a restricted free agent at the end of this season.
