The home of the New York Rangers, as well as the New York Knicks of the NBA, was reportedly offered to both the City of New York and the state as a medical facility during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Keith Olbermann of ESPN, the offer was "gratefully declined" by Governor Andrew Cuomo as it was determined MSG was not ideal for the purpose.

Olbermann also reports that "the military is setting up a field hospital just blocks away from the Garden at the Javits Convention Cent, making MSG a little redundant geographically. Source indicates MSG remains ready, willing and able to step up in the event Coronavirus developments require even more pandemic-related space, insomuch as suites/arena floor were deemed suitable for medical use."

"Therefore the lines of communication on the topic between MSG and the Governor’s and Mayor’s offices will remain open," said Olbermann.

The Garden is home to many other events other than hockey and basketball. However, nothing of that size is happening right now due to the ban on large gathering.
