TIM TUCKER MARCH 25, 2020 · 7H54 |
The KHL has finally bowed to pressure from players and fans and cancelled the remainder of the 2019-20 playoffs. The announcement was made early Tuesday morning.
The league had recently announced it was taking a break but was planning to reconvene in April to finish the playoffs with the six teams that were left. This followed to announcement from two teams not based in Russian, Jokerit and Barys Nur-Sultan, that they were withdrawing from the tournament due to concerns over COVID-19.
In making the announcement, league president and former Alexei Morozov said “we consider that no one has the right to take on responsibility for people’s lives and health.”
