MARKO DANO SAYS JOHN TORTORELLA PUT TEAMMATES IN HOSPITAL WITH HIS TRAINING

Columbus Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella has a reputation for saying what he wants, whenever he wants. He's been fined by the NHL for it at least a couple of times. Yet, for the most part, he seems to have the respect of players who play under him (ok, maybe not Anthony Duclair) despite his inability to censor himself. So, what does he expect from his players? In a new interview in his home country of Slovakia, Marko Dano is giving some insight.

"He's a fair guy. I can't say one wrong word about him. However, we had the hardest training camp in the NHL. He does not look so much at the performances, but at the fact that the player is willing to go to his limits and does not give up."

As for how far Tortorella wants players to go, to the point of utter exhaustion it seems.

"For example, we had to run 3.2 kilometers in twelve minutes," said Dano. "Just three or four guys out of fifty could do it. We ran it in 30-degree heat on blacktop that radiated heat. A couple of guys went straight to the hospital. In addition, we had difficult tests on ice within the time limit. It was challenging in that short time."

Dano is currently on his second stint with the Columbus Blue Jackets. After being originally drafted by the team in the first round in 2013, Dano went on to play with Colorado, Chicago and Winnipeg before re-signing with Columbus in June of 2019.
