TAVARES FEELS “SENSE OF URGENCY” TO SET A PLAN FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SEASON

John Tavares is a member of the NHL and NHLPA’s Return to Play Committee along with Connor McDavid, James van Riemsdyk, Ron Hainsey, and Mark Scheifele. They are working alongside NHL executives to determine the best way to handle the remainder of the 2019-20 season.

Tavares told Sports Illustrated’s Alex Prewitt, “It’s difficult to determine the fairest way of going about it, with so many different variables that were out of your control, in terms of games teams have played, the opponents they have left to finish the season, how many home games.”

Tavares recognizes the challenge that is presented by proposing a plan for completing the season. He knows that many of the players are looking to see the season continue and believes in the importance of “the positivity that [it] could bring back” for the fans. He also acknowledges that “the health and safety measures have to be back at the highest of standards.”

He is working diligently with the Return to Play Committee to devise a plan as he feels a “sense of urgency” to make a final decision.
