ERIK KARLSSON FEELING FULLY FIT AGAIN

Erik Karlsson’s San Jose Sharks had a challenging year, and in mid-February the Swedish star-defenceman broke his thumb. After going through surgery to repair the broken finger, the Sharks announced that Karlsson would miss the remainder of the 2019-20 season.

In an interview with NBC Sports Mike Tirico on "Lunch Talk Live" last week, Karlsson gave an update on the injury.

Karlsson told Tirico, “I'm good. I don't think that the thumb injury was anything major. It was a very unfortunate accident. Nothing you can do about a big bone break, but right now it feels great. I've swung the golf club a few times. I'm not a great golfer even though I would like to be. So I hit the ground a lot, and you know, no pain."

Karlsson also shared his thoughts about what went wrong during the season, and expressed confidence in that the team will bounce back for next season: “I think that when you go through times like this, which unfortunately, most guys on this team had not done before, I think that it shows you a lot about yourself. It kind of shows what you want to be and the dedication it takes to be that.” He continued, "I don't think that anybody would wanna go through that again, so I'm hopeful that when we come back and start the next year, things are gonna be very different."

With the league moving towards cancelling the regular season and going straight into a 24-team playoff, it’s unlikely we will get to see the Sharks play before October. If that’s the case, we will have to wait and see if the Sharks and Karlsson can bounce back in 2020-21.
