FORMER TOP PROSPECT JONATHAN DAHLÉN HAS MADE HIS DECISION

When the Swedish Allsvenskan season was cancelled two months ago, one of the more interesting questions was the one about Elias Pettersson’s former junior partner Jonathan Dahlén’s future.

COMPLETE PROFILE

Coming out of a rough season in America in 2018-19, starting with the Canucks' AHL team Utica Comets and finishing with the San Jose Barracuda, the former Senators second-round pick had a season for the ages with Timra in Swedish second division Allsvenskan this year, scoring 36 and assisting 41 goals for a combined 77 points in 51 games. That was enough to tie him for second all time in points scored in a single Allsvenskan season.

A little more than a week ago, rumours started circulating about the San Jose Sharks wanting to bring over Dahlén for the remainder of their season. With the NHL moving towards a 24-team playoff however, it’s highly unlikely the Sharks will be playing any more games in the 2019-20 schedule. Despite both the Sharks interest as well as every SHL team wanting a signature from the 22-year-old, Sportexpressen writes today that Dahlén has made his decision, and will be staying with Timra in Allsvenskan next season. The last obstacle was the Sharks, who owns Dahlén's NHL rights, but it appears those problems have been solved. The exact length of the contract is unknown, but according to Sportexpressen’s sources, it will make him the best paid player in Allsvenskan.
