CO-WORKER, OTHERS CALL OUT ESPN'S MAX KELLERMAN AFTER HE BASHES HOCKEY AND THE NHL

In case you missed it, ESPN boxing analyst and First Take segment talking head Max Kellerman caused quite a stir earlier this week after completely bashing hockey and the NHL while appearing on the sports network.

"Listen, I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but in the United States of America no one really cares about hockey," said Kellerman while discussing leagues that will be playing or returning this summer. "The old joke is every town has 20,000 hockey fans and they all have season tickets. So the arenas are always sold out but the TV ratings don't do anything. So, it's not one of the four major teams sports."

Kellerman's comments caused a huge backlash against him and ESPN on Twitter with many saying Kellerman's take was uninformed and out of touch. He's now received backlash from one of his own co-workers.

"What do you mean 'Nobody cares about hockey'. Very disappointed and surprised you would make a statement like this @maxkellerman," said Linda Cohn on Twitter while retweeting the video of Kellerman's comments. "It’s insulting to this great game, those associated with it, cover it, and to the passionate fan base here in the United States."

For those unfamiliar with Cohn, she is a co-host on ESPN's Sportscenter, a host on the network's "In the Crease" (a show dedicated to hockey), and a goalie. Cohn played on her high school boy's hockey team, as there was no girls' team to play for, and went on to play for the women's hockey team at the State University of New York at Oswego.

Kellerman's comments also drew criticism from former NHLer turned radio host Carlo Colaiacovo, who called the take "idiotic." NSCSN Chicago host Drew Kaplen reminded Kellerman that "the highest rated games in our channel’s history on NBC Sports Chicago are hockey. And our channel carried the Cubs, White Sox, Bulls and Blackawks."
