TWENTY-SEVEN FINNISH PLAYERS TAKE PRIVATE FLIGHT TO NEW YORK, ONE NOTABLE NAME MISSING

With the NHL playoff plan and preparations slowly edging forward, a large group of players, still uncertain about the future, are coming back from Europe to join their teams.

Leo Komarov of the New York Islanders and Mikael Granlund of the Nashville Predators chartered a private plane which took 27 Finnish NHLers to New York on Friday. The players then plan to disperse around North America to rejoin their teams, giving themselves time to follow whatever local quarantine measures they may have to face upon landing.

Among the players seen at the airport by journalists from Ilta-Salomat, were Pekka Rinne (Nashville), Mikko Koivu (Minnesota), Mikko Rantanen (Colorado), Miro Heiskanen, Esa Lindell, Roope Hintz (Dallas), Teuvo Teravainen, and Sebastian Aho (Carolina).

Perhaps the most surprising big name absent on the flight was Winnipeg sniper Patrick Laine. He told Ilta-Salomat that he was not aware of the Komarov/Granlund-organized flight and while he is aware of a preliminary date of July 10, he has no concrete plans in place to rejoin the Jets.
