CASSIDY FIRES A SHOT AT MAPLE LEAFS REGARDING HUB PROPOSAL

The Maple Leafs' struggles against the Boston Bruins in the postseason have been well documented, and on Monday, Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy took the time to remind everyone of just that in a comment to WEEI's Scott McLaughlin.

"We've played well in that rink in the playoffs, for the most part."

This comment is, of course, in reference to the fact that Toronto is still in the running to be named one of the NHL's hub cities for its return-to-play plans, which are about to enter phase 3 (training camp) on July 10th. Toronto reportedly remains among the favorites along with Edmonton and Vegas as potential landing spots for teams if and when the action resumes.

It's hard to argue with Cassidy in this case, as the Bruins hold 3 first-round victories over the Leafs, dating back to the infamous 4-1 collapse in 2013 in the third period of game 7, which may be one of the most memorable comebacks to clinch a series in modern hockey. Maybe ever.

Since that time, the Leafs have undergone a huge head-to-toe makeover from the front office staff right down to the on-ice product, but they could not prevent history from repeating itself in 2018 or 2019 as the Bruins displayed their dominance over the Buds in consecutive seasons, surging to the conference finals last season.

There are no guarantees that the Leafs and Bruins will meet in the playoffs once again in 2020, but should the matchup occur, it's safe to say that Cassidy would not be the least bit intimidated by the hometown team. In all likelihood, given past results, he and his club would welcome the grudge match.
