NHL PLAYERS IN OLYMPICS NOT EVEN IN CONSIDERATION ANYMORE, ACCORDING TO REPORTS

In 2018, NHL players weren't allowed to participate in the Olympics. Now, it appears the 2022 tournament will face the same destiny. At the moment, negotiations between the Players' Association (NHLPA) and the league are not only about handling the COVID-19 situation and the Return to Play Plan, but also about what a new agreement between the NHLPA and the NHL could look like after 2022.

Alexander Ovechkin is one of the most prominent players to express desire to participate in the 2022 Olympics, but according to Bob Mckenzie, Ovechkin's wish may be getting further away.

However, the international Ice hockey federation (IIHF) has yet to be given a decision from the NHL and because of that, they also haven't given up hope. IIHF President René Fasel was interviewed in Russian Sport-Express:

"For hockey in general and the fans, the absence of NHL players at the coming Olympic Games is bad news. But the last tournament in Pyeongchang which happened two years ago, and was without the NHL players, was a successful tournament." Fasel said.

Whether or not fans will get to see the best national teams possible compete in Beijing in 2022 will likely be announced sometime towards the end of this year.
