NHL REMAINS DETERMINED TO HAVE 82-GAME SEASON IN 2020-21

On Saturday Pierre LeBrun, TSN Hockey insider, reported that the NHL “remains focused solely on a full, 82-game season” for 2020-21.

The 2019-20 season is still underway, currently in Phase 2 of the Return to Play Plan. Players have the option of participating voluntarily in small group workouts at their team’s training facilities.

Phase 3 will involve team training camps and is set to begin on July 13, three days later than originally planned. Phase 4 will be the start of the post-season and does not currently have a set start date.

Despite the delays due to the coronavirus pause that began on March 12, LeBrun reports that the NHL will “try to squeeze” in the next season. This means that it is possible that the 2020-21 Stanley Cup finals will extend into the summer.
