PENS COACH MIKE SULLIVAN PONDERS WHAT TO DO WITH CROSBY AHEAD OF EXHIBITION GAME

With the return of hockey looming, teams are preparing to take to the ice for their single exhibition games, beginning this afternoon with a matchup between heated rivals and combatants in the battle of Pennsylvania, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers.

Despite returning to the ice with his teammates late into training camp, the status of Pens captain Sidney Crosby remains uncertain for this afternoon's 4 p.m. contest (ET).

Ahead of the exhibition game in Toronto, Pens head coach Mike Sullivan had only this to say regarding his captain.

"We're going to allow Sid to go through his game-day routine. A 4 p.m. game makes it more challenging. We'll make a decision on Sid sometime this afternoon on whether or not he's going to play."

Even if the Pens decide to sit Crosby in the exhibition game against the Flyers, it still looks favourable that he will be good to go in time for Saturday's qualifying round series against the Montreal Canadiens. After all, a little extra rest never hurt anybody.

In addition, it looks as though both Matt Murray and Tristan Jarry will see action against the Flyers, as Sullivan confirms his intention to have his two netminders split the game.
