DAVID PASRTNAK SAYS HE DID NOTHING WRONG

David Pastrnak of the Boston Bruins is with his teammates in the Toronto bubble, awaiting the beginning of round robin play to determine seeding. Pastrnak, however, was absent for all but one day of the Bruins' training camp back in Boston. At first, there was no explanation, but his agent later revealed that he had been placed in quarantine after coming in contact with someone who had tested positive for COVID-19. It was also revealed that Pastrnak and fellow Bruins forward Ondrej Kase (who is still on the missing list) skated at a rink in Malden, Massachusetts, which was open to the public, right at the start of Phase 3. Pastrnak confirmed Tuesday that's what led to the quarantine.

“First off, I was never sick, so I don’t think I did anything wrong,” Pastrnak said in his first public comments since mid June. “So, obviously it’s a tough bounce there, and unfortunately after what happened, I had to miss some time. The protocol is to stay in quarantine, so unfortunately I had to be at home for a while, it’s nothing I can control. Obviously, I take full responsibility for my actions, and I know I’m glad I’m back. I feel good out there."

Pastrnak did test negative for the Coronavirus while in quarantine, but was kept there for the full 14 days.

“To be honest, it’s been really tough,” Pastrnak added. “28 days in quarantine (that's counting the initial 14 days after returning from the Czech Republic), the toughest part about was that I was healthy the whole quarantine, but at the same time, I still couldn’t do anything. … It was a really long month.”

In a recent interview, Bruins President Cam Neely stated he wished Pastrnak and Kase had made different decisions, but insisted the team would be fine for the beginning of play on August 1st. There is still no word on Kase's status, although Boston coach Bruce Cassidy did say he is expected to join his teammates in Toronto soon.
