JESSE PULJUJARVI OPEN TO RETURNING TO THE OILERS

Speaking with Finnish media on Wednesday, former Edmonton Oilers fourth-overall pick Jesse Puljujarvi said he would consider returning to the team:

“You can never say no. I have grown and I see things a little differently,” said Puljujarvi. “There’s now a different GM and head coach out there. Build a winning team in Edmonton. It may be possible that I will still be playing there.”

This is a big change in stance for the talented Finnish forward, who had ruled out a return to Edmonton prior to the 2019-20 season in hopes for a trade. Puljujarvi also mentioned in the interview that he had a conference call with Ken Holland and Dave Tippett, saying it went well and left a positive overall picture.

Puljujarvi, 22, had an outstanding 2019-20 season with Karpat in the SM-liiga. In 56 games, he scored 24 goals and added 29 assists. Both of those totals led the team. This was his first season back in Finland since 2015-16, as he had spent the previous three seasons with both the Edmonton Oilers and their AHL affiliate Bakersfield Condors. To this point in his career, he has played in 139 NHL games, posting 17 goals and 37 assists.
