PER JON COOPER, STAMKOS WILL MISS WEDNESDAY'S GAME AGAINST THE BRUINS

The Tampa Bay Lightning have ruled out team captain Steven Stamkos for Wednesday's round robin contest against the Boston Bruins, Sportsnet reports.

Stamkos has been dealing with a lower-body injury and also missed Monday's game against the Washington Capitals. Though the Bolts came out on top in a thrilling 3-2 double-overtime victory, Jon Cooper is eagerly anticipating the return of his captain and one of the league's best pure snipers.

Stamkos has now been sidelined since Phase 2, and prior to that, had spent a lengthy stint on the sidelines this season with a core muscle injury that limited the 30-year-old to just 57 games. He still managed to record 29 goals and 37 assists for 66 points over that span.

Stamkos was one of the league's top point producing forwards last season, registering 98 points over a full 82-game season.

The Markham, ON native continues to skate in Toronto, working toward his return.
