LEAFS IMPACT PLAYER CLEARED TO RETURN TO ACTION

Many had been wondering what the status of Maple Leafs defenseman Jake Muzzin would be for game 5 against the Blue Jackets, following the news that Muzzin skated this morning and has cleared all tests necessary to continue. Well, that coin is still spinning in the air, waiting to land - but another has already landed.

According to Sportsnet's Chris Johnston and the Maple Leafs official Twitter account, impact winger Andreas Johnsson was activated from injured reserve on Sunday and is an option to dress, should Sheldon Keefe and company view him as officially ready for action.

Of course, Keefe may elect to go with the same lineup that pulled off the mother of all comebacks on Friday night and give "Mango" a few more practices with the club before throwing him into the lion's den. After all, Johnsson has not yet taken any line rushes with his teammates, having been relegated to the "extra skater" role since his return after recovering from knee surgery prior to the work stoppage.

Should Keefe toss Johnsson into the mix, with someone such as Pierre Engvall coming out of the lineup, he knows he'll have a more than capable, even if slightly less practiced, role player in the lineup - one with a 20-goal season under his belt.

No word on where Johnsson will slot in if he plays, but the fact that he's ready to go is an encouraging thought for a team who may be on the cusp of matching up against the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the playoffs starting later this week. That is, of course, if they can finish off the stubborn Blue Jackets on Sunday.
