DUCKS TRADE VETERAN DEFENCEMAN TO THE SENATORS

Per NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, the Anaheim Ducks have traded Erik Gudbranson to the Ottawa Senators for a fifth-round pick.

Gudbranson, 28, played just 44 games for the Ducks this past season, as he was acquired by them in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins early into the year. For the season as a whole, he played in 51 games, scoring four goals and adding five assists. The Senators will mark the fifth organization he has been a part of, as he has also spent time with the Vancouver Canucks, as well as the Florida Panthers who drafted him.

While the 2008 third overall pick doesn’t provide the offence you would expect from a player selected that high, he has been able to carve out a decent career for himself and is highly regarded as a great teammate. He is one of the tougher players in the NHL today, and is never shy about dropping the gloves. In 518 career games he has 20 goals and 73 points. He has also played in 17 postseason games, scoring one goal.
