Everything leads to believe that another veteran will be on the free agent market, on July 1st.

The talk period between the various NHL teams and the future free agents has now been open for a few hours and according to Pierre LeBrun, from the TSN network, several teams intend to use this period to meet the right-handed defenseman Anton Stralman, from the Tampa Bay Lightning. LeBrun reportedly spoke with Stralman's agent Marc Levine.

Stalman, 32 years old, just finished the last year of his contract that brought him $4.5M per season. This season, the 12-year veteran cumulated 17 points in 47 games with Tampa Bay.

The Maple Leafs' 7th overall pick (216th overall) in 2005, Anton Stralman could end up with a fifth team this summer, having played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Columbus Blue Jackets, the New York Rangers and the Tampa Bay Lightning. On the other hand, the fact that he his meeting other teams does not necessarily mean that Stralman will not be back in Tampa next season, as this could be a negotiation technique on the part of the Swedish clan.

Stralman still has some hockey to give, having recovered from a fractured fibula, which has limited him to 47 games this season.

It remains to be seen, whether he will be able to return to the level of competition he had before his injury, and also where he will sign for the next season.

To be continued…
