Columbus kicking tires on veteran goaltender

july 21, 2019
It appears the Columbus Blue Jackets may be looking for more experience between the pipes now that Sergei Bobrovsky is a Florida Panther.

On a recent episode of The NHL this Week, The Fourth Period’s Dave Pagnotta stated Columbus had held talks with LA about the possibility of a trade involving Jonathan Quick. The 33-year-old was drafted by the Kings back in 2005 and LA remains the only team he’s ever played for in the NHL.

Pagnotta added that while Columbus have stated they are sticking with Joonas Korpisalo as their starter next year, he’d be really surprised if the team didn’t circle back and hold further talks with LA brass in the hopes of acquiring Quick.

Korpisalo has never played more than 31 games in a season, so it’s not surprising to hear that Columbus is investigating a backup plan should the 25-year-old struggle with full time duties.
