After playing for more than 20 pro teams, Michael Leighton calls it a career

october 7, 2019
After an 18 year career between the pipes, goaltender Michael Leighton has decided to retire. While spending most of his time in the AHL, he appeared in 110 NHL games with Philadelphia, Carolina, Chicago and Nashville. In those outings, the netminder went 37-43-14 with a .900 save percentage and four shutouts.

Leighton has put on the pads for a total of 21 pro hockey teams over this career. He started in the AHL with the Norfolk Admirals in 2001-02, after he was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the sixth round in 1999. From there, there are simply too many teams to list--including a 42 game stint in the KHL in 2013-14--but he ended his career with the Utica Comets, the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks. He played 19 games for the team last season. He also appeared for three games in 2018-19 with the Ontario Reign of the AHL.
