Habs rally around Drouin

october 7, 2019
After a preseason that can only be described as dismal, Jonathan Drouin of the Montreal Canadiens is looking much better in the two games his team has played so far this season, and it's being noticed.

“He’s been incredible,” teammate Paul Byron told Sportsnet after Monday’s practice. He’s been playing great for us. Honestly, probably our best player other than Carey (Price). His effort, his skating, just his intensity on the ice—he’s been playing great hockey for us. That’s the player we all believe he can be. It’s the player we all know he can be for our team, and it’s important for us because I think he’s our best forward. He can be (that) on any given night.”

Drouin has made a difference on the score board in both of the Habs' games so far, getting a goal and an assist. This is great news for the team, as he was essentially non-existent in the preseason, to the point where there were rumours that the Habs had run out of patience with the forward and were shopping him to other teams.

"I think he’s starting to find his game,” said head coach Claude Julien. “We’re just hoping he keeps playing that way.”

Drouin is happy with his play as well.

“I could have zero points right now but I’d be feeling pretty good about the way it’s going,” he told Sportsnet. “I do know I have to contribute offensively in this town, (but) I gotta make sure I just keep playing the same way and (the) goals and points will come."

So you think Drouin can live up to his contract in Montreal?
