Russian junior league game closes out with a brawl; 258 PIMs

october 8, 2019
A spirited line brawl erupted in a match between Altai (Ust-Kamenogorsk) and Siberian Snipers (Novosibirsk) of the Russian MHL (Молодёжная хокке́йная ли́га) junior hockey league.

With the teams playing the first of two back-to-back games against each other in Ust-Kamenogorsk, the Snipers were unable to tie the score at 2:2 and instead, after taking a penalty, ended up allowing an empty netter. After a short 1-on-1 fight, the line brawl commenced at the next faceoff. At least three fights began almost simultaneously, and a fourth started after the Snipers' keeper attempted to interfere and caused a fourth pair of combatants to join the fray.

The referees handed out fighting majors and misconduct plus game misconduct penalties to all involved. The total for the game was at 258 PIMs. The teams play again tomorrow.

The MHL consists of 33 teams, with two being situated in Kazakhstan (Altai being one), one in China, and one in Latvia.

You can watch the video of the brawl below. If, for some reason, it doesn't start in the right spot (it should), skip ahead to the 2 hour and 25 minute mark.
