Morin to miss yet another season due to injury

8 novembre 2019
You'd be hardpressed to find too many other NHL hopefuls with worse luck than Samuel Morin when it comes to injuries. The Philadelphia Flyers have announced the young defenseman will miss the rest of the season after tearing his ACL for a second time in his career. He suffered the injury while playing for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL Tuesday night.

For Morin, a former first round draft pick in 2013, this is the second time he's had to deal with this injury in the last 19 months. He suffered a torn ACL in the AHL playoffs in May of 2018, causing him to miss the vast majority of games in the 2018-19 season. He was on a conditioning stint with the Phantoms when this latest injury happened. On top of that, he only managed 15 AHL games in 2017-18 after battling other injuries.

Since being drafted 11th overall in 2013, the six-foot-six blueliner has managed just nine games in the NHL. On top that that, he's only had a total of 20 games in the AHL since the start of the 2017-18 season.

“I saw Sam before the game," Flyers head coach Alain Vigneault said after the Philly's 3-2 OT win Thursday night over the Canadiens. "There’s no doubt that we all feel for him. There’s a kid that spent the whole summer here trying to get himself back to playing. He accepts to go to the minors to play some games. I guess on a nothing play he heard his knee pop. Very unfortunate. Hopefully he’ll want to put himself through again all that yearlong rehab and get himself another chance to play.”
