Bettman sounds sour note on NHL at the 2022 Winter Olympics

8 novembre 2019
If you are one of those who still hold out hope that the NHL will allow its players to play in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, NHL commish Gary Bettman just poured some more cold water on those hopes.

“I don’t want to sound like a broken record on the subject, but I think going to the Olympics is a challenge for us,” he said. “I know the players love representing their countries, I know that the players like going, I know that the players that don’t go like having a break in the middle of the season. But from our standpoint, we have found going to the Olympics to be incredibly disruptive… to our season.”

Bettman is in Sweden for the TB/Buffalo games of the Global Series and met International Ice Hockey Federation president Rene Fasel. Officially, there is "no news to report" according to Bettman.

A few days ago, Roman Rotenberg, first vice president of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation and the head of staff for the Russian national team, opined that he doesn't see the NHL participating in the Olympics, because "it doesn't fit the financial structure of the league."
