Zach Hyman set to make his season debut

12 novembre 2019
A handful of nights after Maple Leafs star winger Mitch Marner went down with a high ankle sprain, which will keep him out of the lineup for at least four weeks, the Buds will get a much needed boost in the form of Zach Hyman, who returns to the lineup for the Leafs on Wednesday against the New York Islanders.

Hyman has been chomping at the bit to get back to doing what he does best. Get in hard on the forecheck and create some havoc for the opposing defenders, causing turnovers and getting under the skin of the opponent each and every night.

The 27-year-old enjoyed a career year last season, posting 41 points in 71 games playing alongside John Tavares and Mitch Marner, but it's not what Hyman does on the scoresheet that most excites the coaching staff, it's what he does without the puck that really sets him apart on this team. Hyman is a guy who really leans on players along the boards, not making it easy for the opposition to break out. He gets into the dirty areas, finishes his checks, mixes it up in front of the net and does all the other things a good grinder needs to do without the puck to create opportunities for his team.

As far as where Hyman will slot in on Wednesday, from Leafs practice this morning, TSN's Krisen Shilton reported that Hyman is back on Tavares' left side, with the fleet-of-foot Kasperi Kapanen skating on the right side. With Babcock's love of Zach Hyman's game on full display in almost every pre-game and post-game interview, it's a pretty safe bet that the coach is not going to ease Hyman back in, so we can expect to see this line logging a lot of minutes on Wednesday night.

Can Zach Hyman reach the 40-point mark for the third consecutive season, despite missing 19 games?
