In a strange turn of events, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman is reporting that the LA Kings have informed
Ilya Kovalchuk that he won't be playing any games for the foreseeable future. According to Friedman, Kovalchuk has been told he's welcome to attend practice, but he won't be taking part in any games.
Kovalchuk has three goals and nine points in 17 games this season. He's also a minus-10. He's currently on the 2nd year of a three year contract that has him making $6.25 million per year. It also includes a no-movement clause. The 36-year-old had left the NHL in 2012 and spent five and a half seasons in the KHL before deciding he wanted to return to North America.
