
Former NHLer brutally assaulted in Russia, hospitalized

Maxim Kondratyev, captain of HC Amur Khabarovsk of the KHL, has ended up in the hospital after a vicious off-ice incident.
According to the statement from the club, Kondratyev was defending his wife near a local cafe in Khabarovsk when he was hit in the head. The suspect in the attack was detained by the police and is apparently someone with a criminal record. Kondratyev's condition is considered serious but stable and he is recovering at a local hospital. His wife was uninjured.
Kondratyev was a 6th round pick of the Maple Leafs back in 2001. He played 40 games in the NHL between 2003 and 2008, with the Leafs, Rangers, and the Ducks. He is in his fourth year playing for HC Amur.
