Kinkaid on waivers; Habs make call-ups; Mete sidelined for the next while

2 décembre 2019
The struggling Montreal Canadiens have made somewhat of a surprise announcement today, revealing that the club has placed backup goaltender Keith Kinkaid on waivers. If he is not picked up by another team by noon EST Tuesday, he will be sent to the minors.

Kinkaid has gone 1-1-3 with the Habs so far this season with a 4.24 GAA and a .875 save percentage. He was signed to a one-year $1.75 million contract during the last offseason. Before that, the 30-year-old spent his entire career with the New Jersey Devils organization.

Montreal has called up 20-year-old Cayden Primeau as the backup goaltender for now. The 20-year-old has a record of 7-4-1 in the AHL this season. This is his first year playing professional hockey. Forward Matthew Peca has also been called up to Montreal.

Meanwhile, the Habs have also announced that defenseman Victor Mete will be out for at least the next two weeks recovering from an ankle injury. Defense has been a major issue for the Canadiens during the team's eight game losing streak and the team can ill-afford to lose Mete at this moment.
