WHL's Swift Current Broncos fire equipment manager for disturbing behaviour

2 décembre 2019
The Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League have announced the firing of the team's Head Athletic Trainer and Equipment Manager due to a pattern of "demeaning and derogatory comments, threatening behaviour and unprofessional conduct." According to a statement by the team, Jamie LeBlanc's actions were "inconsistent with the values of the Swift Current Broncos and the Western Hockey League."

"We are a premiere franchise strongly committed to the dignity, respect and safety of our players, employees and community partners," said the team.

In its statement, the Broncos say a new Head Trainer and Equipment Manager would be named in the coming days. Outside of that, the team will not comment on the issue further saying it's a personnel matter.

It has at least one insider wondering whether there will be more to come. TSN's Bob McKenzie retweeted the statement with the comment "Day(s) of Reckoning."

The NHL, and hockey in general, has taken a huge beating over the last two weeks, ever since the firing of Mike Babcock by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Since that time, stories of abusive and manipulative behaviour have come out about Babcock, Bill Peters, Marc Crawford, Michel Therrien, the Sutter brothers, as well as others. Peters resigned as head coach of the Calgary Flames after admitting to directing racial slurs at Akim Aliu while coaching the Rockford IceHogs 10 years ago.

Visiting Montreal for the 110th anniversary celebration , former Canadian Saku Koivu mentioned, among other things, that in his view, the entry into the NHL of young Kotkaniemi, was too hasty.
