Presumed No. 1 draft pick headlines Hockey Canada's WJHC invited camp roster

As Hockey Canada prepares for the upcoming IIHF World Junior Championship, the team will look to improve upon last year, were they placed sixth overall. The team will be lead by head coach Dale Hunter, longtime owner, President and bench boss of the OHL's London Knights.

On Monday morning Hockey Canada released their list of all 31 invitees ahead of its selection camp, among the names listed was a familiar and anticipated young left winger, Alexis Lafrenière.

Lafrenière is expected to be the #1 overall pick in the coming 2020 NHL Entry Draft, after putting up exceptional numbers in his QMJHL rookie season. The young winger was selected first overall in the 2017 QMJHL Draft by Rimouski Océanic. In his rookie season, Lafrenière scored 42 goals for Rimouski Oceanic, the most by a rookie since Sidney Crosby. Subsequently, he was awarded the RDS Cup as QMJHL rookie of the year. He was also named to the First All-Star team.

The promising forward has represented Canada internationally at the 2018 IIHF World U18 Championships, 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, and 2019 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships.

As the captain of Team Canada's junior team, Lafrenière led his team to a gold medal at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.

Selection camp will take place Dec. 9-12 in Oakville, Ontario. The IIHF World Junior Championship will be held from December 26th, 2019 - January 5th, 2020 in the Czech Republic.
